Golden Cross Looms as Bitcoin Price Momentum Gains Strength

Bitcoin is on the cusp of forming a golden cross, a technical signal that has historically indicated a shift towards bullish momentum in the cryptocurrency.

The golden cross occurs when an asset's 50-day moving average surpasses its 200-day moving average, and it's been watched across various markets for generations before becoming a staple in crypto. Bitcoin is now closing in on this setup, with its short-term average poised to overtake the longer-term one.

Since 2012, bitcoin has formed this exact pattern 12 times, resulting in an average three-month gain of 24.9%. However, only three of these instances managed to endure for a full year, with those three averaging a substantial 250% gain.

The golden cross's track record is mixed, and it's often criticized for being a lagging indicator that shows up after significant price movement has already occurred. Nevertheless, the combination of this signal and another market trend - USDT dominance nearing a death cross - suggests strengthening bitcoin momentum alongside a shrinking stablecoin footprint.
