Goldman Sachs Backs CLARITY Act Amid Senate Split on Crypto Regulation
Goldman Sachs Chairman and CEO David Solomon has voiced support for the proposed CLARITY Act, which aims to establish a comprehensive federal framework for digital assets. In remarks reported by Politico, Mr. Solomon argued that the bill would provide greater regulatory certainty, enhance stability, and enable digital asset markets to develop within an established federal regime.
The CLARITY Act has already been approved by the House of Representatives, but its passage in the Senate remains uncertain. Critics have raised concerns about specific provisions in the draft law, including language that could permit cryptocurrency platforms to offer yield-style incentives to customers holding dollar-pegged stablecoins.
Goldman Sachs' endorsement is significant given the bank's growing involvement in digital assets. The bank has expanded its presence in the crypto sector, collaborating with Apex Group and Archax on an institutional tokenised real estate fund built on its blockchain-based platform. Goldman Sachs Asset Management has also applied to launch a Bitcoin premium income exchange-traded fund designed to generate income and potential capital gains through a covered-call strategy linked to Bitcoin.
