Grayscale Debuts First Zcash ETF with Direct Exposure
Grayscale has launched the first exchange-traded fund (ETF) offering direct exposure to Zcash, allowing investors to access the privacy-focused cryptocurrency through a traditional securities market. The ETF, which trades under the ticker ZCSH, is a conversion of Grayscale's existing Zcash Trust and carries an annual sponsor fee of 2.5%. This means that revenue collected from the fee will be directed back into the Zcash ecosystem to support network development, marketing, and other initiatives tied to the cryptocurrency.
The ETF launch follows a regulatory process that began with plans to convert Grayscale's long-running Zcash Trust into an exchange-traded product. As crypto.news previously reported, Grayscale filed a Form S-3 registration statement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in May seeking to list the converted trust on NYSE Arca. The filing proposed retaining the ZCSH ticker as part of the conversion.
Grayscale's Head of Index Steve Vanourny said that the company expects demand for financial privacy to increase as artificial intelligence makes financial activity easier to analyze and monitor. 'As AI reshapes how financial activity can be monitored, we believe demand for genuine financial privacy will only grow,' he stated.
Zcash has gained about 45% over the past several days ahead of the ETF launch, with buying accelerating as Grayscale moved through the final stages of the ETF registration process. This comes after a volatile period for ZEC this year, including a sharp decline in June following the disclosure of a critical vulnerability involving Zcash's Orchard shielded pool.
