Grayscale Pursues NYSE Listing for Zcash ETF Amid Growing Demand for Privacy Coins
Grayscale is pushing forward with its bid to convert the Grayscale Zcash Trust into a spot exchange-traded fund (ETF), seeking a listing on the New York Stock Exchange's (NYSE) Arca platform. The asset manager submitted an amended S-3 registration statement to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on August 18, aiming to trade under the ticker ZCSH.
The key change in the amendment is a refinement of share creation and redemption methods, primarily through cash orders with authorized participants able to deliver ZEC directly for in-kind creations. However, in-kind redemptions are not currently permitted.
Zcash's privacy features have drawn attention as Grayscale seeks to bring this product into regulated investment products. The network uses zero-knowledge cryptography to obscure transaction details, a feature that has been cautiously approached by traditional investment products. On-chain indicators show an expanding trend in demand for privacy, with shielded balances among circulating supply rising 30% to a record high.
The Zcash Trust faces security concerns after a flaw was disclosed earlier this year, resulting in the price of ZEC dropping from $602 to $299 at one point. The Ironwood upgrade has since been implemented to detect counterfeit coins.
