Grayscale's Zcash ETF Launches on NYSE Arca Amid $900 Price Speculation
Grayscale's long-awaited Zcash exchange-traded fund (ETF) has launched on the NYSE Arca, trading under the ticker ZCSH. This marks a significant milestone for the firm's nine-year-old Zcash Trust, which held over $313.5 million in assets as of Monday.
The new ETF carries an annual sponsor fee of 2.5% and offers investors a way to track the value of ZEC without directly holding the cryptocurrency. Grayscale Head of Index Steve Vanourny noted that the launch is a bet on demand for privacy-focused digital assets, citing Zcash's unique features such as its fixed supply and optional shielded transactions.
The timing of the launch coincides with the activation of the Ironwood upgrade in Zcash, which addressed a four-year-old vulnerability in the Orchard shielded pool. Vanourny stated that Grayscale will track the rollout of this upgrade, along with exchange support and regulatory treatment of privacy assets, as markers of Zcash's progress.
Grayscale itself describes ZCSH as a higher-risk, complementary position, not a Bitcoin substitute. Investors should weigh the 2.5% annual sponsor fee against holding ZEC directly through a self-custody wallet. The launch has sparked speculation about a potential uptrend in ZEC's price, with some analysts pointing to $900 as a target.
