Grayscale's Zcash ETF Sparks Price Surge, Regulatory Tolerance Remains Key
The launch of Grayscale's Zcash ETF (ZCSH) on August 25 has triggered a significant price surge in Zcash, pushing its value to over $1,000 for the first time since October 2016. The fund, which holds around 387,000 ZEC worth $260 million at launch, reached $313 million in assets within three days and charges a 2.5% annual fee.
The price of Zcash (ZEC) rose 65% in the week before the ETF's listing and continued to climb after its launch, reaching a multi-year high of $1,249.28 on September 6. The fund's net assets reached $463.2 million as of September 7, up from the $260 million it launched with.
The Zcash price has been driven by both the ETF listing and the underlying asset's fundamental value. However, the question remains whether the ETF is driving the rally or simply riding one that was already underway. The fund's existence creates a new distribution channel for ZEC, but its investment appeal still rests on regulatory tolerance.
