Grok Bot Domain Owner Asks xAI for $1 Million

The owner of the grok.bot domain is asking Elon Musk's xAI to pay $1 million for it, claiming that he bought the domain by luck seven months before xAI launched its product with the same name.

However, WHOIS records show that the domain was purchased on January 20, 2026, which predates the launch of Grok Bot by seven months, not one month as claimed.

The owner says he lost heavily trading crypto and has a baby on the way, promising to quit meme coins if xAI pays the $1 million. He lists only a Gmail address for communication and calls the ask 'a marketing spend.'

xAI's AI unit recently disclosed that it lost $1.26 billion in one quarter, and the company already has a trademark on the grok.com domain.
