GSR's SOL Bet: A Misunderstood Signal
GSR's momentum model recently made Solana (SOL) its top bet at 43.6%, but this signal is often misunderstood as a vote of confidence.
The model, which holds no client money and simply expresses the firm's short-term relative-strength read across Bitcoin, Ether, and Solana, tilted towards SOL after it rose about 3% last week while BTC and ETH slipped.
This is not conviction; rather, a momentum model rotating into a beaten-down asset after a small bounce. In fact, Solana has been the worst long-term performer of the three, down roughly 37% this year and about 60% over twelve months.
GSR's model also whipsaws, having had Ether on top just a week earlier and SOL lower, and it does not measure conviction. The weight of Solana in GSR's model portfolio is only a transient weekly signal, not a durable vote of confidence.
