GTA 6 Leaker Turns Theft into Crypto-Backed Business
The Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) leak has taken an unexpected turn as the leaker, known as CyberLeek, is monetizing stolen footage and running a business off the leaks. The group has reportedly charged up to $165,000 in cryptocurrency for advertising placed inside the leaked footage and has run crypto-paid polls letting people vote on what to leak next.
The leaks began circulating around August 18th, with gameplay clips and map images appearing under the CyberLeek name on developer and forum sites before spreading to X and Reddit. Rockstar Games has not confirmed the authenticity of the clips, but its parent company's legal filings suggest they are legitimate.
Take-Two, the parent company of Rockstar Games, has taken aggressive action against the leaker, filing subpoenas in federal court in New York seeking to unmask CyberLeek. The requests cover IP addresses, emails, phone numbers, device identifiers, and linked accounts, reaching into GitHub, OneDrive, and specific Discord servers.
The leaker's manifesto, The CYBERLEEK Edict, criticizes gaming practices like digital pre-orders and paywalled content, but observers are skeptical of the crusade, noting that the clean protest branding sits on top of a messier financial motive, including a meme coin the leaker could profit from.
