GTA 6 Leakers Demand Physical Discs as Industry Shifts to Digital
The Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) leak campaign, led by CyberLeek, has reignited a dispute over physical disc releases. The group demanded pressed discs for pre-orders and an offline fallback for single-player content, but Rockstar Games remained silent on the issue in its recent open letter to fans.
CyberLeek accused Rockstar of playing the victim and trying to scam the community by only offering download codes instead of physical products. The group has been releasing footage in daily batches since August 18 and claims it will not stop until publishers apologize and commit to change.
Rockstar's decision to offer digital-only copies of GTA 6 was confirmed in June, with Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick stating that discs no longer make sense for consumers. The wider industry is moving in the same direction, with Sony planning to stop pressing game discs in January 2028.
The preservation movement has pushed back against this trend, with Stop Killing Games rejecting the leak tactics as unacceptable. Meanwhile, CyberLeek's own financial interests have come under scrutiny, with the group selling ad space inside its leak videos for a fee of 400 Monero (XMR), worth around $172,000.
