GTA Fan Exposes GTA 6 Leaker's Cryptocurrency Scheme
A fan of Grand Theft Auto has used their digital forensics skills to expose what appears to be a cryptocurrency scheme behind this week's GTA 6 leaks. The leaker, known as 'CyberLeek,' released five alleged gameplay videos and an image of the full map, advertising a memecoin called $CYBERLEEK.
The fan, Vice Cit, investigated the cryptocurrency side of the story and found that it led to KuCoin, a Seychelles-based exchange. Vice Cit believes law enforcement can submit transaction details and wallet addresses with a subpoena to identify the account holder.
Vice Cit tracked down the wallet at the center of all transactions, including the website and Solana public key used for uploads. The crypto funding this scheme can be traced back to a well-known exchange that requires KYC verification, meaning the authorities can subpoena the exchange for documents verifying the leaker's identity.
The leaker invested around $29,000 in creating the coin and website, making their money back on the first day of leaks. Since then, they've made between $40,000 to $60,000 in trading fees from buying and selling the coin, with a daily profit of $4,400.
Vice Cit believes this scheme is designed to keep the leaks going for as long as possible, allowing the leaker to rake in profits from trading fees. The manifesto attached to the leaks contained criticism of Rockstar Games and other publishers, seemingly in response to an all-digital future.
