Gujarat Police Bust International Cybercrime Racket Worth Over Rs. 1,071 Crore
A massive international cybercrime racket has been busted in India, exposing a complex network of online scams and money laundering that spans across the country and reaches into China. The Gujarat Police's Cyber Centre of Excellence (CCE) arrested Rafiqul Alam, a 25-year-old man from Sanchuka village near Barpeta Road, for his involvement in over 1,090 digital arrest and fraud scams worth Rs. 1,071 crores.
Alam was not just a small player but a key operator in the racket, suspected of laundering money collected through 'digital arrest' scams and other online frauds. He allegedly deposited the money into hundreds of bank accounts opened with fake documents and converted it into cryptocurrency, which he then sent to handlers in China.
Police found that Alam possessed 23 different cryptocurrency wallets, through which over Rs. 16 crore had been transferred to Chinese handlers. He was in direct touch with individuals in China over WhatsApp and Telegram, sharing scanners, login credentials, and crypto wallet details, and receiving instructions on how to run the scam.
