Gumi Launches ¥3 Billion Crypto Asset Fund with SBI
Japanese game developer Gumi is expanding its cryptocurrency push by launching a ¥3 billion crypto asset fund in partnership with SBI Financial Services. The fund, named SBI Crypto Fund I, will target Bitcoin and major altcoins, as well as active portfolio strategies through staking, rebalancing, and hedging.
The fund's operation is a joint venture between Gumi subsidiary gC Labs, which holds 49% of the stake, and SBI Financial Services, which owns the remaining 51%. The partners had initially planned to launch in 2025 but delayed the start due to market conditions. Gumi has already shown significant interest in crypto, with its holdings increasing by 86% to ¥14.13 billion as of April.
The fund's mission is to bridge the crypto asset market and Japanese companies through investment and liquidity provision. The participating companies also plan to collect performance data and test portfolio strategies that combine traditional and digital assets.
