Hacker's Costly Mistake: $7.7M Stolen Funds Result in $505K Loss
A hacker who exploited the Ethereum maximal extractable value (MEV) bot last June has made some questionable decisions with their loot. After securing $7.7 million, they sold 2,327 ETH at prices just under $1,700 but later changed their mind and accumulated more tokens.
Data from Lookonchain shows that the exploiter initially received $3.94 million for the sale of the stolen ETH. However, they spent a portion of their loot to buy back 2,063 ETH at an average price of $1,912 per token, resulting in a loss of $505,000.
The hacker's actions have not gone unnoticed, with the team behind the MEV bot offering a 50% bounty and a 48-hour deadline to respond. The exploiter has continued to move funds through Tornado Cash but has not returned any of the stolen funds.
