Hackers Exploit Patched macOS Flaw for Monero Mining

The Netherlands' National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has reported that hackers have been using a flaw in Apple's Screen Sharing feature to install Monero mining software on Macs.

The attackers exploited the vulnerability, which was patched by Apple on August 6, to gain full control of multiple Macs and install Monero miners. The NCSC did not provide details on the number of affected machines or the suspected perpetrators.

Ryan Dowd, a researcher at Huntress, analyzed the incident and found that tens of thousands of potentially vulnerable hosts exist. He emphasized the importance of applying recent security updates to prevent similar attacks.
