Hanwha Deploys Tokenized Securities Platform on Avalanche Blockchain
Hanwha Investment & Securities has built a tokenized securities platform using Avalanche blockchain technology. The system supports multiple distributed ledgers, including Avalanche and Hyperledger Besu. This development precedes South Korea's introduction of a regulated market for tokenized instruments in February 2027.
The framework takes effect on Feb. 4, 2027, with amendments to the Electronic Securities Act and Capital Markets Act recognizing distributed ledgers as securities registers. This integration brings tokenized securities into South Korea's existing capital markets system. The Financial Services Commission (FSC) outlined its implementation roadmap in September, specifying three stages for introducing eligible products and expanding the market.
The first phase focuses on privately pooled money market funds, bonds exclusive to institutional investors, unlisted stocks in trust form, and fractional securities offered publicly. The second phase will extend tokenization to all publicly issued securities, while the third phase involves on-chain payments utilizing stablecoins.
