Hanwha Expands Tokenization Strategy with Blockchain-Powered Securities Platform
Hanwha Investment & Securities has developed a tokenized securities platform operating on multiple networks, including Avalanche and Hyperledger Besu. The integration of security tokens is set to take place in South Korea's capital markets system starting February 4, 2027.
The development of the platform was done months before the official integration of tokenized securities in the capital markets system. According to Seoul Economic Daily, Hanwha, together with blockchain technology company FairSquare Lab, started the development of a tokenized securities platform in 2025.
Hanwha's platform supports its broader blockchain and tokenization strategy. The company holds a 9.6% stake in Securitize through three affiliates, making it Securitize's largest shareholder. Hanwha Investment & Securities also invested $22.3 million in Digital Asset, the company behind Canton Network.
The Financial Services Commission has formulated a three-step plan of implementation for tokenization. The first step involves allowing the tokenization of privately placed money market funds and bonds. If successful, this will pave the way for the second phase, which includes the tokenization of unlisted stocks through trust arrangements as well as fractional investment securities.
