Hargreaves Lansdown Enters Crypto Market with Bitcoin and Ethereum ETNs
Hargreaves Lansdown, the UK's largest retail investment platform, has opened crypto ETN trading to eligible investors. The move adds Bitcoin and Ethereum-linked exchange-traded notes to the platform used by millions of retail savers.
The launch marks a significant step beyond Hargreaves Lansdown's traditional funds, shares, and pensions business into digital-asset exposure delivered through regulated stock-exchange instruments.
Unlike buying cryptocurrency directly, investors on the platform hold listed instruments that track the price of Bitcoin or Ether without needing a crypto wallet or private keys. The underlying assets are held by a regulated custodian, and the notes trade like ordinary shares on the London Stock Exchange.
Hargreaves Lansdown restricts access to certified high-net-worth individuals and restricted investors who intend to commit less than 10% of their net assets. Every buyer must first pass an appropriateness assessment, and a 24-hour cooling-off period applies before any trade can be completed.
