Hargreaves Lansdown Enters Cryptocurrency Market with ETN Trading

Hargreaves Lansdown, the UK's largest retail investment service, has started offering cryptocurrency ETN (exchange-traded note) trading to its clients. This move marks a significant shift in the company's product offerings and comes after the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) lifted its ban on retail crypto ETNs.

The launch began in September 2026, and Hargreaves Lansdown has made it clear that this is not for every client. Certified high-net-worth investors can access these products, while restricted investors can use them if they allocate less than 10% of their net assets to them.

ETNs are debt instruments that track the price of an underlying asset, in this case, Bitcoin or Ethereum. They work like ordinary shares and are traded on the London Stock Exchange, but unlike buying cryptocurrencies directly, ETN holders do not receive the actual coins.
