Hargreaves Lansdown Flips Stance on Bitcoin, Offers It to Retail Investors
British investment firm Hargreaves Lansdown has made a significant reversal in its stance on Bitcoin, now offering it to retail investors after previously deeming it 'not an asset class'. The U-turn follows increased institutional adoption and regulated product availability.
The firm's website indicates that Bitcoin and other crypto exchange-traded notes (ETNs) are available for purchase. ETNs track the prices of digital assets and trade on stock exchanges.
Hargreaves Lansdown warned customers last year about buying Bitcoin due to its high volatility and riskiness compared to traditional investments like stocks and bonds.
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission approved Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in 2024, which have collectively managed over $100 billion in assets since their debut.
