Harmony Abandons Blockchain Due to AI Threats, Eyes Ethereum Migration
Harmony, a prominent layer-1 blockchain, has proposed shutting down its network due to threats from AI agents and state actors. According to the Harmony team, these threats have become too great for the blockchain to continue operating.
The proposal suggests migrating Harmony's ONE token to Ethereum and redirecting token emissions towards AI video. Validators would be given new roles or allowed to join the 'Remix Economy for AI Video' initiative. The migration process would involve recording ONE balances at the final block, determining each holder's allocation of replacement tokens on Ethereum.
Users with assets in smart contracts face a separate deadline and are urged to exit all contracts before September 10, 2026. A $1.372 million pool would be used to pay eligible validators and their delegators in four quarterly installments, provided they retain their stakes and sign an agreement.
