Harvard Endowment Keeps Bitcoin ETF Stake Unchanged
Harvard University's endowment has maintained its stake in spot-Bitcoin exchange-traded funds, IBIT, for the second consecutive quarter. The university held 3,044,612 shares of BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) as of June 30, worth approximately $101.4 million.
This is a departure from its previous trend of selling its IBIT position, which had decreased by more than half over the past year. In contrast to its unchanged IBIT holdings, Harvard sold its entire BlackRock spot-Ethereum ETF position in the first quarter, valued at about $86.8 million.
The university's gold-related investments, however, continue to outpace its Bitcoin holdings. As of June 30, Harvard held approximately $171.2 million in iShares Gold Trust (IAU) and SPDR Gold Trust (GLD), far exceeding its IBIT stake.
Other institutional investors took varying approaches to their IBIT positions. Sovereign wealth funds Mubadala and the Abu Dhabi Investment Council maintained their holdings, while US financial institutions Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan made changes to theirs.
