Hashdex Bitcoin ETF Shuts Down Amid Lackluster Investor Interest
The Hashdex Bitcoin ETF will cease trading and be liquidated due to low investor interest. The fund, which listed on the NYSE Arca under the ticker DEFI, had assets worth $14.7 million as of July 30.
Hashdex confirmed that it would wind down the fund after determining it was no longer viable due to lackluster inflows and trading volume. Despite growing demand for spot Bitcoin ETFs, smaller funds struggle to compete with larger players in the market.
The SEC filing on August 3 outlined the closure schedule, with investors able to buy and sell shares until August 17. After this date, creation orders from authorized participants will no longer be accepted, and the ETF will cease listing on the NYSE Arca.
Shareholders holding DEFI at the end of trading will receive a liquidation cash payment based on the fund's net asset value (NAV). Hashdex estimates that payments will be made by August 28, although an earlier SEC filing mentioned August 24 as the date.
