Hashdex to Liquidate Smaller Bitcoin Spot ETF Amid Market Challenges
Hashdex has announced plans to liquidate its Bitcoin spot exchange-traded fund (ETF), listing on NYSE Arca under the DEFI ticker. According to an SEC filing, the decision was made after a review of factors such as trading liquidity, ongoing operating costs, and investor demand.
The fund holds roughly 225 BTC, with net assets amounting to $14.25 million based on figures published on its website. The ETF has been available to investors since March 2024, but has struggled to gain traction in a crowded market where larger funds dominate.
Hashdex cited trading liquidity, operating costs, and investor interest as the reasons behind the decision to liquidate the fund. This move highlights the challenges faced by smaller Bitcoin ETFs in maintaining sufficient scale to continue operations.
