Hashdex's First Spot Bitcoin ETF to Cease Trading on August 17
Hashdex has announced that its First Spot Bitcoin ETF, DEFI, will cease trading and shut down on August 17, 2026. This marks the first time a spot bitcoin ETF has exited the market.
The fund's assets will be liquidated, and shareholders who don't redeem their shares by the deadline will receive a cash payout. Hashdex emphasized that despite this closure, it still manages around $200 million in assets across other products available to U.S. investors, including the multi-asset crypto fund Hashdex Nasdaq CME Crypto Index ETF.
DEFI was initially conceived as a hybrid product, which could hold derivatives on its balance sheet. Its assets under management (AUM) stand at $14.7 million, with net inflows of $4.27 million. It ranks last by this metric, with a share relative to other products not reaching 0.1%.
