Hassan Presses Capital One for Records on Trump-Linked Account Closures
Senator Maggie Hassan is pressing Capital One for records on why it closed several bank accounts linked to President Donald Trump's business dealings, citing concerns over anti-money laundering red flags.
The request, made in a letter dated September 2026, follows an internal investigation by the bank that found suspicious transactions consistent with money laundering and terrorist financing red flags. Hassan argues that the American people deserve to know the extent of Trump's suspicious and potentially illegal financial activity, and that Congress needs additional information to conduct oversight.
The request targets anti-money laundering review and ties the Capital One matter to earlier concerns involving Trump's business network, including a $10 million fine levied against the Trump Taj Mahal Casino in 2015 for significant and long-standing violations of anti-money laundering rules. Hassan also references recent issues surrounding World Liberty Financial, a crypto venture linked to the Trump family, which reportedly sold $100 million in tokens to suspected money launderer Guren Bobby Zhou.
