Hayes' $250,000 Bitcoin Prediction Faces Reality Check
Arthur Hayes, a prominent investor and Bitcoin advocate, has predicted that the cryptocurrency will reach $250,000 in value. He claims this will happen due to continued money printing by governments around the world, which he believes will lead to excess credit being allocated to crypto markets.
Hayes has backed up his prediction with a significant investment portfolio, with 10 times more exposure to Bitcoin than gold and positions in gold miners and Exxon Mobil. However, not everyone agrees with his assessment.
Peter Boockvar, an investor who appeared on CNBC just hours before Hayes made his prediction, warned that the policy move Hayes is counting on will not happen. He cited the current state of the bond market as evidence, pointing out that the long end of the Treasury curve has been printing cycle highs and that the Federal Funds target rate upper bound remains at 3.75%.
The article also notes that a three-fold increase in Bitcoin's price would be unprecedented, given the growing circulating supply and increased ETF flow. It concludes that while Hayes' prediction is possible, it has a low probability of happening on the timeline he implies.
