Hayes Returns to Lead Crypto-AI Project Amid Debt-Financed AI Bubble Concerns

Arthur Hayes, co-founder of BitMEX, is returning to a leadership role after a six-year hiatus as CEO of Flop Labs. He will be leading the proposed FLOP token, which runs on a 'proof-of-useful-inference' network.

Hayes believes the real AI bubble is in debt financing data centers and loss-making AI firms, not in the technology itself. Excess compute capacity might eventually benefit crypto-AI projects like Flop Labs, he says.

The FLOP token will launch with no presale or venture-capital allocation, described by Hayes as a '100% fair launch'. The project plans a 'massive airdrop' in 2027's first quarter.
