Hayes' Trading Patterns Exposed: Consistency is Key
Crypto investor and BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes has been accused of buying high and selling low, incurring significant losses on trades. According to an analysis by BeInCrypto, a pattern emerged where Hayes' linked wallets sold Ethereum at a loss only to rebuy it at a higher price days later.
The study examined every transaction from the three wallets attributed to Hayes over the past two years and eight months, finding that the total losses exceeded $2.47 million. The biggest loser was Ethereum, with a reconstructed loss of $2.04 million.
However, one token stood out as an exception: Ethena's governance token ENA. Hayes' linked wallets made over $3 million in profit on ENA trades, thanks to his insider knowledge and patient approach. Unlike his other trades, which often involved selling into short-term fear, Hayes held the ENA position for weeks, allowing it to outperform by 30% within a month.
The analysis suggests that Hayes' trading strategy is not always successful, particularly when he acts on his macro convictions. His ETH trades have consistently followed a pattern of buying high and selling low, resulting in significant losses. This raises questions about the reliability of Hayes as a market commentator and the potential consequences of following his advice.
