Hayes' Wallet Adds Another $282K to UNI Holdings Amid Burn Mechanism Expansion
Arthur Hayes' wallet has added another $282,000 to its UNI holdings after withdrawing 39,000 tokens from FalconX. This brings the total UNI tokens held by the address to 284,101, valued at approximately $2.007 million. The average acquisition cost of these tokens is around $7.06 per token.
This move follows a larger purchase of 244,406 UNI for about $1.73 million through Flowdesk's OTC desk, which has made UNI the third-largest asset held by Hayes' wallet. The timing of this accumulation is notable as Uniswap, the decentralized exchange behind UNI, is in the middle of a significant shift in how its token interacts with protocol economics.
The burn mechanism, which emerged from the UNIfication governance overhaul approved in late 2024, permanently removes UNI from circulation by routing fees collected from parts of the protocol into on-chain contracts. This mechanism has already burned 186,000 UNI in a single day and is set to expand further with discussions around extending it to Uniswap v4.
Hayes has been reshaping his portfolio aggressively in recent months, including exiting his entire Hyperliquid and NEAR positions in June. He has returned to DeFi targets with conviction, predicting $10,000 Ethereum and $2 ETHFI by year-end based on expectations that expanding dollar liquidity will eventually lift higher-beta crypto assets.
While the wallet activity has drawn investor attention, it's essential to note that large holders can rebalance portfolios at different price levels or execute trades across multiple strategies. The address linked to Hayes carries an average UNI cost of about $7.06, meaning future price movements will directly affect the value of the position.
