Hazync Achieves Instant Bitcoin Validation with 27ms Zero-Knowledge Proofs
A research prototype called Hazync has achieved instant validation of Bitcoin in just 27 milliseconds using zero-knowledge proofs. The system, which relies on RISC Zero's zkVM, checks a compact file created by the proof-generating process.
The developers behind Hazync estimate that the historical backfill for genesis-to-tip would require around 17 GPU-years of compute power. This is based on the block 741,000 benchmark, which measured the proof-generation cost on recent Bitcoin data and took about 55 minutes to complete using two L40S GPUs.
The system concentrates proof generation among provers and leaves receipt verification to a larger population, making verification cheap while proving expensive. The available material provides representative project benchmarks instead of an audited measurement across every era of Bitcoin history.
