Hedera Partners with RiskStream to Tokenize Property Risk Data
The $1.1 trillion property and casualty insurance market has long been hindered by inefficient data sharing practices. Carriers wrote more than $1.1 trillion in direct written premium in 2025, but the risk data behind those policies still travels via spreadsheet and email. To address this issue, The Institutes' RiskStream Collaborative is partnering with Hedera to bring tokenized property risk data to the platform.
RiskStream President Pat Schmid explained that the insurance industry's reliance on manual workflows has led to a lack of transparency in pricing. Reinsurers face particular challenges, as they struggle to price what they cannot see inside pooled instruments. The persistent property token on Hedera will provide a verified record for underwriting, making it easier for carriers and brokers to exchange information.
The hybrid model combines the public, interoperable nature of Hedera with the private, permissioned ledger of HashSphere. This allows for sensitive material to be stored securely while still enabling the creation of a universal identifier for properties. The tokenized data will enable faster underwriting, more accurate pricing, and improved transparency across the industry.
