Hegotá Upgrade Brings Ethereum Closer to Zero-Eth Transacting
Ethereum's upcoming Hegotá upgrade is set to bring significant changes to how wallets authorize transactions and pay gas. EIP-8141, also known as Frames, has been chosen as the execution-layer headliner for the upgrade, with Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin among its ten authors.
The proposal separates transaction validation, gas approval, and execution into individual contract calls, allowing another account to handle payment on behalf of the user. This could enable users holding only stablecoins to transact without keeping ETH in their wallet.
In addition to sponsored gas, EIP-8141 also supports batching, key rotation, and post-quantum authentication. The proposal has moved beyond an experimental idea and is now part of Hegotá's core engineering work, with the Ethereum Foundation describing it as a route away from traditional externally owned accounts.
