Hegotá Upgrade: Ethereum Community Unites Behind Stronger Censorship Resistance and Faster Block Production

The Ethereum community is abuzz as the next hard fork, Hegotá, draws near. Scheduled to follow Glamsterdam, this upgrade aims to address key issues and improve the network's scalability.

According to Ethlabs, a recent review of EIPs (Ethereum Improvement Proposals) reveals that the top priorities for Hegotá include stronger censorship resistance, faster block production, native account abstraction, and continuous L1 scaling. These enhancements aim to make Ethereum more efficient, secure, and user-friendly.

One of the core proposals, FOCIL (EIP-7805), has entered the SFI phase and is set to be included in Hegotá. This proposal focuses on strengthening censorship resistance by ensuring that transactions are not arbitrarily rejected from blocks.

Another crucial aspect of Hegotá is the adoption of Quick Slots (EIP-8198), which seeks to reduce block production time from 12 seconds to a faster interval. Ethlabs advocates for this change, citing its potential to improve user experience, increase censorship resistance, and enhance Ethereum's overall value proposition.

The community has also raised concerns regarding the feasibility of implementing Quick Slots in Hegotá. Some have argued that it may be too ambitious given the current state of development. However, Ethlabs remains optimistic about the proposal's chances of success.
