Hegotá Upgrade: Only One Proposal Firmly Scheduled Amid 66 Considered
The Ethereum community is eagerly awaiting the upcoming upgrade, Hegotá, set to launch in 2027. But what does it actually entail? According to recent reports, 66 proposals are being considered for inclusion in the upgrade, but this number has been greatly exaggerated.
A closer look at the official planning document reveals that only one proposal is firmly scheduled for Hegotá, while 37 have been submitted but not yet assessed. This means that the majority of these proposals will likely not make it into the final upgrade.
The selection process for Hegotá's features is an important aspect to consider, as each hard fork changes computing fees, transaction types, and validator duties for everyone on the network at once. For example, EIP-8061 raises the ceiling on how many validators can exit or be consolidated per unit of time, affecting staking ETH.
To keep track of which proposals are actually included in Hegotá, it's essential to look at the meta document, specifically EIP-8081. This document records the official state of each proposal and is updated regularly by the core developers. Only once a proposal has been submitted as an edit to this document does it gain an official status.
