According to Electric Capital's 2025 Developer Report, there were approximately 23,000 full-time Web3 developers worldwide, a figure that has remained flat for two years. This constrained developer pool means every ecosystem gain by one chain is a relative loss for another, making the competition a zero-sum game.
Solana currently leads in real-world throughput and DeFi liquidity, with over $8 billion in total value locked (TVL) and a proven 65,000 TPS burst capacity under live conditions. Monad's EVM-compatible parallel execution architecture promises 10,000 sustained TPS while eliminating the need for developers to learn a new programming language.
Sui's object-based Move model has produced the fastest institutional onboarding story of the three chains, attracting major gaming and payments partnerships since its 2023 mainnet launch. The growth of high-performance L1s is attributed to the fragmented L2 landscape, which solved Ethereum's throughput problem but created liquidity silos and user experience friction.
