Hiraia: Offline AI Tutor Bridges Education Gap for Filipino Students

Luis Buenaventura, a veteran in tech and crypto, has developed an AI science tutor called Hiraia that runs completely offline on $100 Android smartphones. The app is designed to bridge the gap in education for Filipino students who are up to five full school years behind their regional peers.

Hiraia uses a locally stored intelligence model that speaks three languages - Tagalog, Bisaya, and English - and contains over 40,000 science facts and 30,000 illustrations mapped directly to the Department of Education's MATATAG curriculum. The app can be transferred from one phone to another using a peer-to-peer file-sharing protocol.

Buenaventura received a ₱1 million research grant from the Tether Foundation to complete the model's continued pre-training and fine-tuning. Currently, Hiraia is in early alpha (v0.3.1) and requires no account registration, displays no ads, and collects zero personal data.
