Hitachi Conducts Anti-Money Laundering Experiment for Digital Asset Trading
Hitachi has conducted an anti-money laundering (AML) proof-of-concept experiment for digital asset trading, confirming the feasibility of its application in practice. The company collaborated with 17 organizations, including financial institutions and cryptocurrency-related businesses, to test the effectiveness of AML measures in detecting early warning signs of money laundering and improving accuracy.
The experiment, which took place from March to May, used wallet addresses and transaction information as risk signals, rather than sharing customer personal attributes. This allowed participating companies to supplement their individual risk assessments by leveraging shared intelligence on suspicious transactions and high-risk wallets.
Hitachi's proof-of-concept also involved combining known sanction and crime-related lists with external analysis services, blockchain analysis, and AI-powered transaction behavior similarity analysis. The result was a multi-layered risk assessment that not only identified well-known high-risk targets but also uncovered previously unknown risks.
