HIVE Digital Technologies has joined forces with major tech giants like Amazon Web Services, Google, and Microsoft to adopt Canada's Responsible Data Centre Development Principles.

The framework was introduced by the Government of Canada on September 3, 2026, aiming to promote sustainable data center development without burdening local communities with power, water, and environmental costs.

As a signatory, HIVE's BUZZ HPC subsidiary is committed to adhering to five core expectations: crafting sustainable benefits for local communities, not shifting electricity costs onto consumers, minimizing water use and ecological impacts, ensuring transparency about facility effects, and delivering outcomes beneficial to Canada as a whole.

HIVE's $3.5 billion AI-focused data center project in the Greater Toronto Area is set to go live in the second half of 2027, featuring closed-loop cooling systems with zero water usage, making it a transformative project for the company.
