HK Man Loses $1.67 Million in Fake Crypto Investment App Scam
A Hong Kong man in his 70s lost over HK$13 million after falling victim to a fake crypto investment app scam. The scammer, claiming to be a cryptocurrency expert from Singapore, contacted the victim through WhatsApp and introduced him to a platform offering favorable exchange rates, low fees, and withdrawals at any time.
The man was instructed to download an investment application and transfer his USDT and ETH funds to designated wallet addresses as investment capital. The app displayed what appeared to be continuous profits, prompting the victim to send more cryptocurrency to the scammer's wallets.
It wasn't until he tried to withdraw his funds that the fraud became clear. By then, the man had already lost over HK$13 million.
