HKDAP Seeks to Revolutionize On-Chain Finance with Cross-Border Settlement Capabilities
HKDAP, a Hong Kong dollar-backed stablecoin, is gaining traction as an on-chain settlement vehicle rather than just another payment method. According to Tim Sun, a senior researcher at HashKey, HKD stablecoins will play a crucial role in the future of on-chain finance.
Sun believes that regulated HKD-denominated stablecoins can provide utility beyond payments, particularly in cross-border settlement, corporate treasury management, and tokenized assets. He cites Asia's large cross-border capital flows and growing use of asset tokenization as factors contributing to this potential.
HKDAP has already seen early adoption through insurance-related tests with YF Life Insurance International and OneDegree, while Unloq's SC+ trade-finance infrastructure completed a Hong Kong transaction using HKDAP for settlement. Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) became the first bank distributor on August 24, further expanding institutional access.
