Hong Kong Exchange OSL Opens XRP Trading to Retail Investors
OSL, a licensed exchange in Hong Kong, has made XRP available to retail investors for the first time. This move comes nearly two years after the coin was listed on the city's regulated platforms for professional investors only.
The new accessibility means that ordinary buyers in Hong Kong can now purchase XRP with either US dollars or Hong Kong dollars without converting their currency first or using an unlicensed exchange.
OSL, which is traded on the Hong Kong stock exchange under ticker 863, had to meet specific requirements before opening XRP to retail investors. The exchange needed to qualify as an 'eligible large-cap virtual asset' by appearing in at least two acceptable indices published by independent providers.
Hong Kong's largest exchange, HashKey, has not yet opened XRP to retail investors despite listing the coin over a year ago. If it does take this step, XRP would reach a larger slice of Hong Kong's licensed retail market than OSL alone reaches.
