Hong Kong Woman Loses $3.3M in Romance-Linked Crypto Scam

Share

A Hong Kong woman lost over $3.3 million in a romance-linked cryptocurrency scam after an online partner convinced her to invest in a virtual currency platform.

The victim, a 50-year-old insurance professional, met someone on the internet who claimed to be a car dealer and eventually established a romantic relationship.

After building trust, the scammers directed her to an unfamiliar investment platform where she initially saw returns exceeding 800%.

However, when she tried to withdraw her funds, the platform blocked the request, and the supposed romantic partner stopped responding. The authorities did not disclose which cryptocurrencies were involved or whether any of the transferred funds had been recovered.
