Hormuz Tensions Spark Crypto Market Jitters, But ADA and HYPE Defy Odds
Geopolitical tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz weighed on crypto markets, but Cardano (ADA) and Hyperliquid (HYPE) bucked the trend.
While major cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and XRP lagged behind, ADA rose over 4% and HYPE jumped more than 3% in the last 24 hours. In contrast, Bitcoin traded 1% higher, Ethereum gained a mere 0.3%, and XRP was only up 0.2%.
The split came as uncertainty over US-Iran talks rose after contradictory statements from Washington and Tehran. President Donald Trump claimed that negotiations were underway with Iran, calling it their 'last chance' to reach a deal, but Iran quickly rejected these claims.
Iran's military adviser Mohsen Rezaei warned that if the US brings warships into the Strait of Hormuz, they will target them. The Strait, a key global energy shipping lane, has seen another attack on commercial shipping, exacerbating tensions.
