Hoskinson Accuses Ethereum of Quietly Copying Cardano's Core Design
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has accused Ethereum of quietly copying its EUTXO (Extended Unspent Transaction Output) design. According to Hoskinson, Ethereum developers are attempting to replicate Cardano's approach without giving credit.
Hoskinson made the claim in response to a research proposal by Ethereum Foundation researcher Toni Wahrstätter. The proposal suggests treating simple payments as temporary, one-shot objects rather than permanent account-state entries.
Wahrstätter claims that this approach could cut permanent state for payment workloads by about 99.8%, citing Bitcoin's UTXO model as an example. Hoskinson sees this as a clear attempt to replicate Cardano's EUTXO design, which he considers the 'biggest innovation of the smart contract world.'
Cardano has been emphasizing its EUTXO design in recent times, particularly with its Leios scaling push. The Ethereum proposal is still in the theoretical stage and would require community review and a hard fork before being implemented.
