Hoskinson Calls for Industry Maturity Amid Bridge Attacks and Security Vulnerabilities
Charles Hoskinson, founder of IOHK and Cardano, emphasized that recent bridge attacks and security vulnerabilities highlight the need for the cryptocurrency industry to mature. He argued that solely focusing on speed is an insufficient approach to addressing security issues, instead advocating for the use of zero-knowledge (ZK) technologies and decentralized insurance systems.
Hoskinson pointed out that traditional software security models are inadequate against AI-powered cyberattacks, suggesting a shift towards ZK systems like the Midnight project. He also proposed establishing optional insurance pools based on risk-weighted assets to compensate users for losses. This would enable the sector to reach traditional financial levels, he claimed.
The Cardano ecosystem has successfully completed its v11 upgrade, with the update implemented entirely through on-chain community voting. The new version includes the Groth16 ZK proof-of-service verification infrastructure and is a significant step towards increasing security and scalability. In contrast, Hoskinson criticized Ethereum's governance and financing model, highlighting Cardano's decentralized treasury system as a more sustainable approach.
Hoskinson also expressed concerns about Layer-2 (L2) solutions in the Ethereum ecosystem, labeling them 'parasitic' and harmful to the main chain. He touted Cardano's partnered L2 model as an alternative that provides ADA holders with multiple token returns.
