Hoskinson Touts Cardano DeFi with Bitcoin Network Strength
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson recently revealed that he once held an impressive 108,000 Bitcoin through the project's early crowdsale. At the time, Bitcoin traded at around $250, putting the value of his holdings at approximately $27 million.
Hoskinson, however, emphasized that his past bitcoin holdings were not as significant as his connections within the Bitcoin network. He argued that these relationships could be a key strength for Cardano's DeFi strategy, particularly in attracting liquidity from Bitcoin holders.
According to Hoskinson, Bitcoin users are looking for attractive and trustworthy yield opportunities, which would allow them to allocate funds to DeFi platforms like Cardano while maintaining control over their assets. He also highlighted the importance of preserving asset control and self-custody, as well as designing lending structures appropriately.
The strategy aligns with the 'Pogun' initiative led by Input Output Group (IOG), which aims to connect Bitcoin's idle liquidity to Cardano DeFi while allowing users to retain control over their private keys. Hoskinson also presented technical improvements, including a significant reduction in proof data size and verification time.
Meanwhile, demand signals from the market indicate that Pogun is building a lending book ahead of launch, with early borrowers expressing interest in up to $500 million and regulated institutions showing interest in providing up to $1 billion.
