Digital-assets exchange Kraken reported a 'dust attack' on its platform in August 2026, where tiny amounts of cryptocurrency were sent to customers from a wallet linked to sanctioned rival HTX. The transfers aimed to disrupt or manipulate another crypto user by triggering compliance checks.

Kraken stated that the apparent intention behind this tactic was to spread sanctioned funds and trigger compliance checks, which would allow the perpetrators to evade detection.
