Humboldt Residents Voice Concerns Over New Data Center and Bitcoin Mining Operation

A new data center is being built in Humboldt, Tennessee, and it's causing concern among some residents. The 15-megawatt facility will be used for Bitcoin mining, according to Mayor Arthur Boykin.

Mayor Boykin claims the data center will be a net-positive for the city, providing increased utility and reducing pressure on citizens. However, many residents were unaware of the project until recently, leading to concerns about noise, polluted groundwater, and excessive energy consumption.

Mayor Boykin acknowledged that the city could have done a better job of announcing the data center's construction and addressing resident concerns. He assured citizens that there would be no issues with groundwater contamination, noise, or capacity problems.

The Humboldt Chamber of Commerce has invited residents to attend a board meeting on Monday, 27th, to ask questions about the data center. A community meeting is also planned for Sunday, 26th, at Bailey Park.
