Hunter Biden Enters Crypto with LAPTOP Meme Coin, But Traders Remain Skeptical
Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, has entered the world of cryptocurrency by launching his own meme coin called LAPTOP. The token's ticker is already circulating online, and Hunter shared a link to it on X, where he posted alongside a clip from Fox News about the computer.
The post received over 1.7 million views within hours, but the crypto community's reaction has been largely skeptical. Many have criticized Hunter as a hypocrite for launching a meme coin after criticizing others for doing so in the past. President Donald Trump and his wife Melania launched their own meme coins back in 2025, which lost more than 90% of their market capitalization.
Hunter's LAPTOP token specifically targets people who lost money on Trump's official meme coin by offering a 20% airdrop of the total supply to those who were affected. However, some traders are questioning the timing of the launch and whether it will be a legitimate project or just another 'rug pull'.
The Ethereum second-layer network Base has been accused of chasing relevance rather than picking projects on merit by promoting the LAPTOP listing. Additionally, several copycat tokens using the LAPTOP ticker have popped up across other networks, making it difficult to distinguish between the real token and fake ones.
